Hanh Nguyen

  • Vietnamese Instructor

My name is Mỹ-Hạnh (pronounced "Mee Han"), which in Vietnamese means "Good virtue" as per my mother's wish. I was born in Vietnam and moved to Pittsburgh in 1979. I come from a long line of educators and enjoy teaching. I love the Vietnamese language "tôi yêu tiếng nước tôi" and feel lucky that I have been an educator in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Linguistics for over 20 years. I enjoy connecting my students with the Vietnamese language and culture, and I feel proud that my husband, Nghi Nguyen, M.D., is a frequent guest speaker in my classes. I enjoy giving back to my community, and my husband and I were recipients of the Diocese of Pittsburgh "Manifesting the Kingdom" 2006 Award for our community activities.
