For over 50 years, the English Language Institute (ELI) at the University of Pittsburgh has been teaching English as a second language courses for international students with a variety of language needs. The ELI has a rich assortment of courses to help students reach their educational goals.
Founded in 1981, Pitt Study Abroad develops programs and facilitates educational experiences in over 75 countries. Students can study abroad during the summer term, fall semester, spring semester or during a full academic year.
In 1968, the University Center for International Studies (UCIS) was created as the University of Pittsburgh’s encompassing framework for all its multidisciplinary international programs. The design for UCIS was carefully thought out to promote the integration and synthesis of international knowledge, not its splintering into disciplinary islands. When UCIS was created, this design was unique. By today it has been emulated by many research universities and the University of Pittsburgh is recognized as a leading institution in international scholarship and education worldwide.
